Yin Yoga

Yin yoga targets the deep connective tissues of the body – ligaments, joints, bones, the deep facia networks. Yin is contrast to a Yang yoga practice such as Vinyasa yoga which targets the superficial muscles. A Yin class usually consists of a series of passive floor poses held for up to 5 minutes or more that mainly work the lower part of the body – the hips, pelvis, inner thighs, lower spine. A regular yin practice can increase circulation and improve flexibility, calm and balance the mind and body, reduce stress and anxiety, release fascia, encourage deeper relaxation, improve joint mobility, and bring balance to the organs.

Our Yoga Instructors

Jackie Lai

Jackie has a passion for yoga and has been teaching and gaining more experience and knowledge in yoga and related practices since 2018. She has education on yoga for kids, athletes, myofascial release, and many more areas of interest.

Yoga is not just about the practice. Each practice offers the opportunity to look within ourselves to learn valuable insights, and then apply those to our daily life.

Jackie has been practicing yoga since 2012, she teaches yin yoga and has a passion for incorporating yoga with sport and athletic training for athletes of all ages. Jackie prides herself on giving her students a safe, non-judgement environment to let them be themselves. A space where they can learn to listen to their bodies. Once they are aware of what their body needs on the mat, they can take that knowledge out of the studio to keep improving their quality of life. She loves seeing the transformation of her students from beginning to end of class. When students arrive, they might be tense or stress about their day. However throughout the class, I can see their tension and stress melts away. It’s a wonderful feeling knowing I can help someone feel good mentally and physically.

When Jackie isn’t teaching, she can be found training for triathlons, watching a good documentary or hanging out with her husband and dogs.

What drew you to LEAD?
I started Pilates when I was living in Australia, while recovering from a back injury. Before moving to Saskatoon, I did extensive online research on the different Pilates studios in Saskatoon and Lead appealed to me because of all the great class options that were on the schedule. What kept me coming back was the friendly staff, challenging classes, and their ability to translate why I need Pilates in my life every day.

What do you love most about working with clients?
LEAD attracts the best clients! Every single client makes it rewarding to teach Pilates. I love seeing client’s bodies change from class to class, their dedication to moving their bodies better, and hearing about how much they love Pilates and how it is changing their day-to-day lives. Clients remind me why I LOVE PILATES SOOOO MUCH!

What is your favourite class?
My favourite class is the full mat repertoire because of the flow and challenge. I am also in love with the trapeze table because a lot of the mat exercises translate so well on that piece of equipment.

What don’t we know about you that you would like to share?
Joseph Pilates is pretty cool, but I have had a lifelong crush on Jane Fonda.

Do you have any words of wisdom?
Smile. Laugh. Move.
